    Optimal decentralized spectral resource allocation for OFDMA downlink of femto networks via adaptive gradient vector step size approach

    For the orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) downlink of a femto network, the resource allocation scheme would aim to maximize the area spectral efficiency (ASE) subject to constraints on the radio resources per transmission interval accessible by each femtocell. An optimal resource allocation scheme for completely decentralized femtocell deployments leads to a nonlinear optimization problem because the cost function of the optimization problem is nonlinear. In this paper, an adaptive gradient vector step size approach is proposed for finding the optimal solution of the optimization problem. Computer numerical simulation results show that our proposed method is more efficient than existing exhaustive search methods

    In this correspondence, a two-channel linear phase finite impulse response (FIR) quadrature mirror filter (QMF) bank minimax design problem is formulated as a nonconvex optimization problem so that a weighted sum of the maximum amplitude distortion of the filter bank, the maximum passband ripple magnitude and the maximum stopband ripple magnitude of the prototype filter is minimized subject to specifications on these performances. A modified filled function method is proposed for finding the global minimum of the nonconvex optimization problem. Computer numerical simulations show that our proposed design method is efficient and effective

    Optimal cosine modulated nonuniform linear phase FIR filter bank design via stretching and shifting frequency response of prototype filter

    This paper proposes an optimal cosine modulated nonuniform linear phase finite impulse response (FIR) filter bank design. The frequency responses of all the analysis filters and the synthesis filters of the filter bank are derived based on both stretching and shifting the frequency response of the prototype filter. The total aliasing error of the filter bank is minimized subject to a specification on the maximum amplitude distortion of the filter bank as well as specifications on both the maximum passband ripple magnitude and the maximum stopband ripple magnitude of the prototype filter. This filter bank design problem is actually a functional inequality constrained optimization problem. Our recently developed integration approach is employed for solving the problem. Computer numerical simulation results show that our proposed design method outperforms existing design methods

    Implementing Flipped Classroom that Used a Context Aware Mobile Learning System into Learning Process

    While some studies indicate that flipped classrooms offer many positive educational outcomes, other studies draw attention to limitations associated with flipped classroom (students' limited preparation prior to class, students' need for guidance at home, students' inability to get immediate feedback while they study at home, and little research has focused on students' learning outcomes, such as: satisfaction and motivation). This paper attempts to address several of these limitations through exploratory studies conducted in an Algerian University. The approach proposed in this paper called Flipped classroom based on Context-Aware mobile learning system (FC-CAMLS) aims to provide learners with an adapted course content format based on their feedback and context. The latter has a significant influence on multimedia content in adaptive mobile learning. The system was implemented in an English Language course. It was expected that the FC-CAMLS increased the management of students' heterogeneity. A quantitative analysis by means of structural equation modeling was performed to analyze the caUnited States of Americal relationships between knowledge, skills, motivation and students' satisfaction. The results show that the system has positive effects on students' knowledge, skills, and motivation. Finally, our research provides useful results that the use of the context dimensions and learner's feedback in adaptive mobile learning is more beneficial for learners especially in the flipped classroom
